If you were on a ship and about to sink, what 6 items would you take from these
Once you jump of the ship you are on a dessert Island in the Pacific Ocean.
What items would you take? (you are only allowed 6!)
1. gold bar
/>2. life jacket
3. a mirror 4. 30 water based food rations
/>5. water cleansing tablets 6. box of 50 matches 7. a flare gun
(2 flares included) 8. extra clothes (warm fleece and tracksuit
bottoms) 9. a sail 10. a transistor radio 11. a penknife />12. money (£20) 13. a torch You are only allowed 6
No need for extra clothes or lifejacket; a gumby suit will keep
you warm in a lifeboat & afloat better than a lifejacket. Water cleansing
tablets won't do any good on salt water & the lifeboats carry a large store
of fresh water anyway. There is plenty of food stored on the boat too,
even though it tastes like saw dust, coconut oil & honey. Matches are
worthless on a lifeboat & a sail won't get you anywhere in the middle of
the ocean. It is best to stay in the area where you sunk anyway. The boat bag has a knife as well as any sailor should who is on the sea. Radio, flare gun, mirror, torch, food rations, gold bar. Why not, the mate on watch sends in position every four hours to company headquarters. If they don't hear from us within 12 hrs a rescue mission is started.
in a situation such as this it is wise to remember the rule of
three.you cannot live three minutes without air
three days without water
three weeks without food
having said that you may want to think about how you will acquire the
necessary things to live, such as food ,water (drinkable water)and
shelter.my list would be this in order of importance: pen knife water tabs food matches extra clothes flare gun/extra flares
i will bet the people in California don't know the Pacific
Ocean is warm! i almost froze in it once.
I am a survival instructor for the US Military, and your
question stated that when you jumped off the ship, you were ON an
island...so my question is...why is everyone wasting 1 item by taking the
life jacket?

basic survival, and something that I have on me at all times are a
Flashlight, Knife, and matches, these things can be tiny, and fit on your
key chain, no reason not to always have them on you, I ALWAYS DO !
This is a FUN question ! Support ''SAR'' (search and rescue), GET LOST !

next time you add options of SART, TPA, INT.MOBILE etc etc.
ships and survival technology are more or less based on such things. of
the present list 2,3,4,5,7&13 makes sense. a life jacket to reach shore,
mirror, torch and flare for day and night signalling and other two for
survival. other thing you can make in a day or two( shelter, fire, sharp
objects etc) . i will not carry gold to tempt some poor fisherman to cut
my throat for that instead of saving my life.
Life Jacket - Required for all shipboard emergencies i.e.
Abandonment, Mirror - signaling, Flare Gun - start a fire or signal, Extra
Clothes - protection against exposure, Sail - shelter, Knife - obvious.
Most of this stuff can be found in the ditty bag of a life boat or raft.
2.3.5.6.8.11,
life jacket,mirror, 30 water based food rations,50
matches,flare gun and transistor radio
That is very genrous. I am lucky!
1. water cleansing tablets are the most important
2. & 3. are the 30 water based food rations (because water, again, is the
most important thing) & the mirror (because it is the most useful tool for
signalling for help- reflect the sun in an S-O-S pattern.)
4. It is close, but I'd say the matches next- & you'd better be prepared to maintain a perpetual fire & conserve ur matches only in the emergencies when it goes out! Not only does fire provide warmth, the ability to cook food, & the ability to sterilize water, you can also arrange three fires in the shape of a triangle (smoky fires during the day) as the international signal for HELP. 5. Right at the heels of matches is the sail, because you can build a shelter out of it quickly & easily. however, you can also build a shelter out of things on the island. Still, good convenient fabric like that is hard to come by & I am a bit impractical. 6. I am really tempted on the knife, because it is a valuable tool for making more clothes & shelter & cutting up food, but I should be able to find a sharp rock/ pound a rock into a sharp tool/ find some kind or shell or dead animal is teeth that will do as good a job as a PEN knife. So, I will make my last salvage the extra clothes, so I don't have to be naked & cold when I am washing the other set. Clothes would be harder to make than shelter. Anyone who woud take the gold & money deserves to die & be removed from the gene pool.
2. life jacket
4. 30 water based food rations
6. box of 50 matches
7. a flare gun
8. extra clothes
10. a transistor radio
These would be my major necessities!
mirror, box of 50 matches, penknife, a sail, transistor radio,
water cleansing tablets
life jacket
a mirror
water cleansing tablets
box of matches
30 water based food rations
a sail
money won't help, flair might but you need somebody looking for you first, you have to have something to light the torch (if you don't mean it as a flashlight) and I would not waste the matches, the cloths are nice but the Pacific is kind of a warm ocean, I thought about the knife but depending on the size, it may or may not do any good
life jacket, mirror, 50 maches, extra clothes, sail, penknive
You forgot or unaware of the ''Most Important'' possesion a
person needs, whether or not he ''jumps'' from a sinking ship or walks the
streets any where in the world! The BIBLE is god is word, with the word
anything is possible, with-out it ,you are on your own,Doomed to failure.
Good luck!
Hmmm..good question. I would definitely say the water
cleansing tablets, the matches, the radio, the food rations (of course
hoping those 30 packets count as one item), extra clothes and the knife.
(Of course lip balm and mascara would be a plus but since they aren't on
your list...)
Mirror, food rations, sail (for shelter), water cleansing
tablets, extra clothes, penknife, or the hottest chick from the ship.
